FAQ

So how does this all work?

It is completely normal to be nervous or anxious before attending a therapy session. Our goal is to help you feel as comfortable as possible from our first conversation, to the first appointment.

What will the first session be like?

The first session is pretty straightforward. The first session is all about establishing a connection so that it can be easier to talk about the bigger stuff later. Your therapist will ask you a series of questions to get a snapshot of what your world looks like and where you would like to be. You can expect to be asked some of the following questions:

-What is your goal for therapy?

-Have you attended therapy in the past?

-What are your symptoms?

-Do you have any mental health issues in your family history?

-How is your home life?

-Do you have a history of suicidal ideation?

-Do you have a history of self-harm?

Is what we talk about confidential?

Yes, Florida mental health laws and HIPPA protect the confidentiality of all communications between a client and psychotherapist in most situations. No information is disclosed without prior written permission from the client.

However, there are some exceptions to this rule that are required by law. Exceptions include:

-If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to work with the individual to ensure their safety. However, if an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.

-Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse.

-If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person.

-When client information is court mandated.

What are your specialties?

We specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depression and enjoy working on women’s issues, multicultural topics, and helping individuals work through family difficulties.

What's the difference between talking to you or talking to someone I already trust?

While talking to someone you trust is always encouraged, a trained mental health professional can help you approach your situation with a new perspective. We can teach you new skills, help you to gain insight, and listen to you without judgment in a private setting.

Will you offer referrals if you're not a good fit for me?

Finding a therapist that you match with can sometimes be a bit of a trial and error process, and that’s ok! Your therapist’s priority is to keep you safe and to make sure you’re getting the best care possible with someone you trust. In the event that it is not a match, your therapist will work with you to determine what works best for you and will offer referrals if need be.

How long does a session last?

A single session lasts for 60 minutes. The number of total sessions depends on the individual and what they are working to overcome.

How often will we meet?

To have psychotherapy be the most effective we recommend meeting on a weekly or bi weekly basis.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes. Although COVID19 has changed a lot of things, we believe that getting access to quality mental health care should be at the forefront. We happily offer telehealth services but only to those residing in Florida due to state laws.

How much does a session cost and what forms of payment do you accept?

A session costs $100. We currently take cash, card, check, Venmo, and Paypal.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. Our practice currently accepts Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, Oxford and Oscar Health

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a 24 hour notice for cancellations. Clients will be charged $30 for sessions cancelled in less than 24 hours.
